i have purchased for my bridesmaids some pajamas, it’s a cotton nightie, since we’ll all be spending the night together before the wedding. i chose the color/fit as best as I could to tastes and body type.

to give them at the rehearsal dinner, i am thinking of getting them this mug
http://www.teavana.com/Dragonfly+Tea+Mug+with+Infuser/keywords=infuser+mug/page_no=1/edp_no=4912/shop.axd/ProductDetails
some loose tea that i think they will like and a tea tin to keep it fresh

is this a personal enough gift? or would you be disappointed. we all went to college together and drank tea like fiends…

i didn’t want to buy something like jewelry because we all have dramatically different jewelry/fashion sense

i think it sounds like a nice gift

i want to get snakebites[the piercings] but one of the few things stopping me is that school does not allow it.
i really don’t care though, and id probably go to school showing the piercing anyway.
so whatever.
but i was just wondering
how many other people out there think it’s STUPID for the school to allow guys to wear earings but no one can have nose rings or lip rings?

and im not saying guys with earings are stupid, so don’t take it the wrong way.
all im saying is it isn’t very fair.
to the girl who talked about her friend getting suspended::::
WTF
that is gayyyyyyy.
i swear schools are becoming more and more retarded by the day.
and no black nail polish?
wtf is that all about?
I WEAR BLACK NAIL POLISH
saying no black nail polish allowed is like changing me
no wonder so many kids aren’t themselves.

and to the person who said it’d be discriminative,
yeah i know that
but if they’re gonna allow boys to have piercings
why not allow any piercing for any gender?

wow. I didnt know schools were that strict! Is it a private school?

I am writing a paper about why necklaces are so commonly used by female protagonists in fantasy literature. I have already found many articles (so don’t worry about doing my assignment for me–I love to research), but I am having a hard time finding truly specific ones (many just generalize, generalize, generalize). I would be happy with online or book suggestions.

Thanks!
Don’t be afraid to suggest religious books or sites–I know how important these things have been to various religions, both traditional and New Age.

A couple of sites which may be helpful. A suggestion - look up the special properties of the materials that necklaces were made of (eg., a sky-blue bead on a thong was worn around the neck by children - not sure what culture - as a protection against evil spirits).

There is a reason I am asking: ok, this past summer,I had seen, 3 days in a row, a dragonfly near my 2nd story window. They usually go near water, and our building isn’t near any water that i know of.It is near forest, but not near any water.
I have seen dragonfly charms alot.
I have bought said charms and made ( crocheted) chokers, with them.
Dragonfly buttons, which I have made chokers out of.
Dragonfly pictures. ( I can’t afford 20 $ at target for it :( )
Dragonfly pictures in books ,magazines, ect.
Dragonfly necklaces,
Dragonfly pentagrams
Dragonfly in my dreams.

Today whilst I was at Wal-mart, doing the last of my christmas shopping, i was at the large pallet of boxed jewelry, and had seen crosses, butterflies, hearts, circles, ect.
I mumbled that if they had a dragonfly,i wouldn’t hesitate to buy it.
I looked ,and sure enough, there was a marcasite Dragonfly brooch that hadn’t been there a moment before…
Yes,i bought it,and could scarcly remember placing it in my cart.
That is odd.
Ok, this is where it gets odder:
I am a Heath Ledger fan, all who know me know this.
On Heath’s upper left arm,is an upside- down dragonfly tattoo.
Going head-first into a pond.
Oh,and the other day,I had found a small, round, pink, suede CD case. And on it,was a sea-green, ( my two fave colors, by the way) dragonfly applique.
When I went back to get it, it had been marked down 3 $, from 10.00,
to 7 $.
They had only one when i was there, and two weeks later, there was 5, and marked down.
Sooooo, which brings to mind this question:
What is up with the dragonflies?
my animal totems are Wolves. I love Cats, and one stray/feral cat adopted us,a "tuxedo" named "Mama Kitty." i am the only one she will play with, in a certain fashion, and will give lovies to. She will lay down and bite, playfully,my foot, appearing to "fall" down, behind my foot.
She will want attention behind her ears, then when I pet her, flatten them, curling her whole body around my arm, with her head under my palm, her forepaws wrapped around my hand, and her legs near my wrist. My hand/wrist is clawed all to heck, and itchy from heling.
Her claws are not out painfully, just playful.
I used to be able to scoop her up,but she has gained weight,so i can’t now.
Anyway, the dragonfly thing has me more than a little puzzled.
i had had a vision Jan. 18,and it came true jan. 22nd.
yes it was on Heath ledger. So, what is up with the dragonflies?
So what does this all mean???
it isn’t that I LIKE them, it is that I keep seeing them.I LIKE wolves, but don;t see them hardly at all.
This goes beyond mere coincidence, by the way.

Some people might say that if you look long enough for something you’ll find it everywhere like the number 23 but some of things you mention I defintly think means something. Dragonfly’s usually mean change so it sounds like someone is tring to warn you of this change

Trying to start up my own costume jewelry collection and wondering if anyone out there does this or knows anyone doing it and where they get their supplies if they do not actually make everything themselves.

When I’m looking for beads and findings for my jewelry making business, I generally go to www.firemountaingems.com. I started out making costume jewelry like yourself and it is a one stop shop for anything from making Costume Jewelry to setting faceted stones. They have beautiful plastic, glass, and semi-precious stone beads, and also every type of finding you could imagine. Good luck and have fun! I hope you love it as much as I do.

Is there a way of knotting a stone into a hemp necklace rather than using regular beads. I have a few small polished stones that I received and want to use but I’m not sure if I will need to drill a hole in them or if there is a way of securing the stone by using a series of knots.

Short answer is Yes, stones can mounted without being drilled.

Longer answer: it may be a combination of techniques. But in discovery, you might figure out exactly what you want to do.

Most of my work is in mounting flat-backed stones (cabochons), and some small (uncut) river stone, with seed beads. There are jewelry artists who use macrame and un-drilled stone and found objects. Some of their techniques could be applicable to your own ideas whether your media is thick or thin, weighty or fine.

My opinion is that most open weave styles, tightly knoted, could be used to secure stone. Such as a simple alternating square knot, example in this book: http://books.google.com/books?id=Rrsuljrsfh4C&pg=PA14&dq=macrame+mounts&ei=VLJ0SaSjLpuKkATa-tm0Dg#PPA15,M1

If the links below don’t inspire, try joining "Wet Canvas" http://www.wetcanvas.com/index.php Try the "Fiber Arts" channel and search on your terms: hemp, macrame, mounting stone (or similar).
Good luck to you.

Take a look at the technique used with these macrame-bound stones https://doctortrip.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=76&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1
I am mentioning this site because the images that can be brought up with excellent resolution, and you might recognize the simplicity of the knots (click on the jewelry item, then again on the picture).

"Marion: Jewels in Fiber" has a way with waxed linen and cabochons. This is her class listing, take a look at the knots used on: "Cabochon Micro-Macrame Fiber Setting" and be sure to check her gallery: http://www.jewelsinfiber.com/workshop.html
Again, your ideas might differ but the knots tell a story.

Kristine Buchanan macrames stone and offers directions: http://kristinebuchanan.com/necklaces.html Again, it’s the techniques that could be applied to your own ideas.
