Crowds of onlookers stand by and watch a high street robbery and the only person to intervene is an OAP?

What do you make of this story?

Its their pride, in their generation a man didn’t bow down to a $hit bags violence, they find it hard to let go of that belief. Even if they are getting older and not as fit, older men still see themselves as the strong bloke they used to be.
Younger people are from the "pretend you saw nothing" era.
Men like the old chap fought in the war to keep our country great, it kills them to see it being turned to cr@p by little scrotes like these.
My fella although not old, lol, wrestled a Samourai sword wheelding yob in a cash converters shop ~ its a matter of not letting them get one up.

Psychological studies have shown that the greater the number of people who witness an incident the lower the odds are that any one of them will intervene.
It would seem that the thinking is "someone else will do something".
Good on the old fellow for doing the right thing without fear of the possible consequences!

that’s what us olduns do, we dont walk around with guns and knives, shame on all the others who just stood and watched. To the old gent, I salute you sir, well done, lets hope the shop can give you a reward

They were sensible, he is a hero.
That’s why heroes are actually quite rare.

He was very brave and took a great risk, but then it seems that only the older Generation actually care what goes on in this Country and try to do something about it..

My Gran did something like that a few years ago. The guys didn’t have baseball bats though. Good on him. Those guys must be really hacked off.

A damning indictment that society doesn’t give too hoots. Well done that man, at least the older generation have got a pair.

Typical - and then they wonder why crime is rife! I hope they’re ashamed of themselves. What a brilliant man, age means nothing to people like him - just doing the right thing. He knew he could well end up being hurt but took that chance - he’s a HERO! I hope the Jewellers manage to thank him but i hope the media are told to back off, there could well be repercussions otherwise.

This story just goes to show how the general morality of society has changed over a number of years.
All types of crime are so commonplace these days, that particularly younger people think " Oh ! It’s just another one".
Mind you, with every other programme on television being about crime, robbery or violence - it’s no wonder.
I personally, am sick of police dramas, crime dramas, murder mysteries and the like - I haven’t watched them for a long time.
Congratulations to the OAP concerned. He deserves a medal !

Cheer up, the next thing you will probably hear is that the OAP has been done for assaulting the criminal !!!!

The advice I’m getting from the fuzz is do not confront robbers and keep your doors and windows locked shut.

O.A.P.

The OAP in the picture is probably an old soldier and when you’ve been shot at a few times and had people bomb your house, you tend not to worry about some prat with a hammer. In truth a bloke with a hammer is pretty useless in a fight - just don’t ask why. Other thing is the old fella looks slim and active - good for him. Everyone should buy him a drink or better still raise a few quid to give him and his family a big Xmas bash somewhere.

It’s not unusual for people not to want to get involved. I don’t blame them. I’m the same. I was in a bank once when some robbers came in and it scared the Hell out of me. Only people who have not had such an experience can say we’re like rabbits in the headlights. Well, it’s bloody true. We’re not cowards, we just leaderless. The OAP probably thought that everyone else would just muck in. . .

well on one hand i do think good for him, but i do think it is unfair to say it is an indictment of how others dont care

if you have a family, your initial thoughts should be how it might impact on them if it goes wrong, do you want your kids to grow up without a parent, even BOJohnson is saying members of the public should not get involved as many of these bastards are lethally armed

Myself, I’d like to think i would get involved if someone was in danger, but if it is just stuff i would think is it worth dying for an ipod?

the answer is no by the way (even one of the new video/mobile phone ones)

it is an indictment however of the ineffective police, I have complained on several occasions that they are a waste of space, or at least the system that means they spend more man hours pushing paper than doing the effing job

i only saw the headline in the afternoon paper, but if so, they should all be completely ashamed of themselves, this is exactly what is wrong with our country.

Very brave man, but it could have turned nasty. Wonder what the onlookers would have done then.

What I’m confused about is why the robbers are hammering in the windows when the door to the shop is open?…

Whats the point in getting involved if the police book you for asaulting the mugger?

The OAP will of course be prosecuted by the police and successfully sued by the robbers.

Whilst there is a totally biased krap legal system such as ours, no one will get involved.

Its a generation thing.
His generation lived through a war & were forced to fight for their rights & took pride in doing so. They knew the right thing to do & they did it.
Youngsters today have things too easy & have everything handed to them on a plate.
The youth of today only care about self & miss the bigger picture.
This elderly man didn’t think about himself, only in saving a crime being committed. Kudos to him. I hope the jeweller in question does the right thing & rewards him well.

I agree with the first answer, the high street shops are covered against robbery, they are insured for it so why would anybody want to risk their lives for a cooperate Business.

I could understand it they were mugging an old lady, yeah of course intervene. The old gyp would have been better to focus his attention on cooperate crime like the banks stealing his money and pensions that he has worked hard for all his life.

So what if shops and big business get robbed who cares, I can guarantee that any bank or big shop is targeted the police will respond in an instant, but hey get your house broken in to and you would be lucky to see a policeman come to your house days after.

Yep! Watch out …some of us old gits are not afraid of nowt so best be aware that some old git is prepared to stand up and be counted, on the high street, or, in court as witnesses, cos it could cos you cowardly runts your liberty…for a long time. even at the cost of our well-being especially if the courts came down hard on the side of justice as they surely should.
