What is your opinion of wearing makeup and jewelry?

By admin

Do you think that God does not want us to wear makeup and jewelry? Do you think that it constitutes vanity? If so, where to draw the line? Is a little acceptable, or does any article that does not serve a practical purpose only serve for vanity? What do you think of piercings (besides ears) and tatoos? Are they appropriate for Christians?

You are thinking way too much on this…religion has nothing to do with cosmetics.

how do they know how old jewelry really is?

whatever makes you feel prettier.

Who cares as long as you do it for you? Do what makes you feel good. I would think God has better things to do.

I hate it. It’s expensive and a waste of my money… but then it’s like putting it on a muddy donkey’s butt… I’m butch after all.

I do not follow religion. However, I say it’s great–it allows you to express yourself, and shows that you care about your appearance and putting an effort into your day. I wear makeup, jewelry, and have piercings. I can’t legally get a tattoo, and am not completely sure about how I feel about those. I say, as long as you’re comfortable with it, and it does not conflict with your values and morals, you’re good.

Thinking in these terms every step of a human is vanity. As long as you do not harm others your image is all right with God.

I happen to be a Christian , I wear light make up,
my ears & belly button are pierced & I have 3
tatoos, perhaps God does not like the way they look, who knows , but I think his main concern is my heart & my relationship w/ him & if I tell others about what his son did for them.

take care

Be moderate in all things! If you believe the Bible as your guideline in belief and practice. The Bible states you aren’t to mark your body. These were practices of the heathen.

Many people would say NO make up. No Jewelry – except maybe a simple wedding band. No tats. No piercing.

Personally, if you think about it, body piercing is how Christians obtain salvation. I’m probably going to spend a millenium in purgatory for that comment.

I say to each his own. I’m not big on make up myself. But I love to play with it and am an amateur make up artist for others. I have piercings and tatoos (technically two small tatoos that make for one on my ankle)

I see nothing wrong with getting tatoos. As long as their positive and not negative. If you catch my drift. However, if I’d known back then how much I would change over the years, I would never have gotten my tatoos. I am not that person any more. They have no meaning for me.

I know some radical Jesus Freak skaters and bikers. Covered in tatoos and piercings. They are no less Christian than me!

Contrary to what DB says, the bible does NOT say not to mark your body. It says Levite priests should not mark their bodies.

Vanity is an attitude, not a type of clothing.

I think makeup is great! omg, I’d be so plain without it, kinda like Pam Anderson without makeup, like that. I don’t think it’s vain. Jewelry is nice, and tattoos are a form of expression so I guess some religions would have issues with self-expression, of course not if their leader ok’d it. I think we get too hung up on if god would approve or not, jeez, just live already!

I think God understands. Whatever makes u feel good. If you’re a Christian, you’re a Christian no matter what you look like on the outside.

well I think we are to use moderation & modesty in whatever we do .
I would OK ear rings and a little makeup for my wife, but if she got to a point of exaggeration we would talk about it. Tattoos, other piercings are (to me) really vanity and trying to follow the worlds customs. The biggest problem I see is Christian women badly dressed with short skirts and low cut pants showing off what I really consider more than they should. I think it is really inappropriate for Christians. Worldly people, I don’t even say a word to them..

Normally for a wife or daughter, they should submit to their male authority in the home.
We should have a desire to dress in a godly manner and be good representatives of HIM.. As a man I am careful how I am dressed around women and try to never be immodest in what I wear.. I wear no jewelry at all, and maintain a short haircut..

Even an old barn looks better with a new coat of paint and a few other bits and bobs of decoration..

Every culture throughout history has found some form of self mutilation aesthetically pleasing whether it is piercing, tattooing, branding, scarring, body part size and length modification or any other form of body altering/modification.. Whether or not a certain form is aesthetically pleasing depends on what culture you are in..

"or does any article that does not serve a practical purpose only serve for vanity?"

I would say you nailed it there.

If you don’t need it then what other purpose does it serve than vanity?

As a Christian, I think of Abraham’s servant who was sent to look for a wife for Isaac and he prayed to God for the right girl, and Rebecca showed up and answered his prayer and he gave her as a promise, bracelets and earrings and noserings.

Do you think that women in Bible times didn’t use henna and other dyes, or kohl to line their eyes?
Or braid their hair in intricate patterns? Of course they did!

There’s nothing wrong with adornment.
I think vanity falls into play when one is obsessed with their appearance or has to one up the next person.

Your greatest adornment should be your faith, but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

So, enjoy, just don’t get carried away.

This is me. I also have piercings in other places besides my ears (though i don’t wear make up). I personally don’t like too much make up on a female as ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder ‘ & the belief that make up inhances ones looks is a joke, this is a mask, just like the one i wear, except mine shows you who & what i am on the inside.

Oh yea, i’m also a D.O.G (disciple of God)

The bible says that piercings and tatoos are against God. Makeup and jewelry make a woman, or a man, think too much about their appearance and that makes those things vanity, or worthless.

I dont wear makeup because it tested on animals. I want more piercing and plan on getting a tattoo very soon. But then again I’m a atheist, so I guess my answer doesnt really count.
